A Chadian rebel leader and former official of the Central African Republic has been captured, the UN Mission in the country announced on Wednesday.
The UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic known by its French acronym, MINUSCA, said Mahamat Abdul Kadre was detained by its forces on Monday.

"The rebel was on the CAR authorities’ arrest list since May 2014. This is the latest in a series of actions that the Mission is undertaking using its Urgent Temporary Measures mandate to perform basic police functions in support of CAR authorities' fight against impunity. Recent major arrests include anti-Balaka leaders called "Chocolat" and John "Americain". Following the arrest of the latter in Bambari, 88 of his fighters have also surrendered." (28")
The Central African Republic is struggling to resolve the conflict that broke out in December 2012 between militias from the Christian and Muslim communities which has displaced thousands of people.
MINUSCA began operations in September 2014, focusing on the protection of civilians and the facilitation of a political process in the country.
