O soldado norte-americano, Brendan
Marrocco, perdeu os dois braços e as duas pernas no Iraque. Agora foi realizado
o primeiro transplante do género nos Estados Unidos e o jovem recuperou os dois
braços, segundo o jornal espanhol El Mundo.
Em abril de 2009, um míssil atingiu o veículo onde o soldado norte-americano
Brendan Marrocco seguia. Como consequência ficou sem os quatro membros.
Em primeiro lugar Brendan teve uma prótese mecânica nas pernas, que lhe
permitiu andar, e agora tem os dois braços através de um transplante realizado
no Hospital Johns Hopkins, em Baltimore, nos Estados Unidos.
Juntamente com os médicos que o operaram, Marrocco de 26 anos, apresentou-se
em público já com os transplantes, animado e ansioso para continuar a lutar pela
sua recuperação.
O jovem norte-americano confessou que quando recuperar o controlo dos seus
membros superiores a primeira coisa que irá fazer é conduzir e depois voltar a
praticar desporto como fazia na escola e antes de ir para o Iraque.
Até ao momento a evolução da cirurgia tem sido boa e Marrocco não tem sofrido
qualquer dor.
Os cirurgiões operaram durante 12 horas para ligar os músculos, ossos, vasos,
tendões, nervos e pele de ambos os braços
Esta foi a primeira operação deste tipo realizada nos Estados Unidos.
