Exiled former President of Gambia Yahya Jammeh is looking at venturing into farming full time according to reports.
Authorities in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea would have no objection to the former President of Gambia desire to embark on agriculture because “the country is full of fertile land available,” according to an Equatorial Guinean diplomat, as per a report by Jeune Afrique
Jammeh flew out to Equatorial Guinea on 21st January from The Gambia to live in exile in Equatorial Guinea after 22 years in power, to allow elected President Adama Barrow to take up office and end a political crisis in Gambia.
The 51 year old Gambian leader had refused to step down after a December 1 election in which Barrow was declared winner, leading to political tension and uncertainty in the tiny West African nation for weeks until the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) proposed a military intervention to oust the President, however ECOWAS negotiations saw Yahya finally leave power.
When President Yahya Jammeh picked up his phone to call Barrow to congratulate him he told the President-elect he would be retiring to his farm as the farmer-in-chief. Jammeh’s Kanilai farms in Western Region often had visits from the leader according to SMBC.
