United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader Saulos Chilima has urged Malawians to stop glorifying leaders, saying such tendencies create a master-slave relationship between citizens and their leaders.
Chilima said this today at Bembeke Trading Centre in Dedza during his whistle-stop tour oh his way to Mangochi where he is expected to preside over the Eastern Region launch of his movement tomorrow.
He said it is saddening that some leaders think it is impossible to create one million jobs in a year, saying such leaders should simply give UTM a chance to prove them wrong.
"If you think you cannot do it, pave the way for those that are capable. Leaders must inspire people and not deflate them. We are a great nation and under UTM, we will unveil the country's greatness," he said.
This statement is somehow a response to President Peter Mutharika, who during his whistle-stop tour in the lakeshore districts on his way from Mzuzu to Lilongwe, doubted UTM's plan to create one million jobs in a year.
The Vice-President, who also stopped at Masasa, Golomoti and Mtakataka trading centres, urged people to register so that they vote next year, saying their vote is a weapon to get rid of corruption, nepotism and impunity in the country.
