Tricia Drummond At the ripe old age of 7 I learned that girls could be warriors, leaders, generals and rebels and not JUST a pretty princess thanks to Princess Leia. Carrie Fisher gave that to us, us girls of the 70s and 80s who were looking for more than a damsel in distress waiting for a prince to save her.
Carrie Fisher will always be an idol for me.

Dale Hopkins What does one say to a mother who loses her child?
Thank you for bringing her into our lives. She meant so much to all of us, some of us more as she guided us through our own personal struggles. She had such humour and a love for people. We should all be so blessed with a spirit such as hers.

Annette Kniola Nix I know several mothers and fathers that have lost children at a much young age, and there is not a lot you can say. It's hard at what ever age they are. My nephew was gone at 21, my husband cousin at 30. Speak foundly of them and their parents know you loved them too.

Elle Maree there is a saying - a person who lost their spouse is a widow / widower, a child who lost a parent/s is an orphan. but there is no word for a parent who has lost their child, it isn't supposed to happen. I lost my 2nd baby at 20 weeks pregnant, nothing takes that heartache away, but I can't imagine what her heart was feeling. A broken heart can kill you :(

Scott Simpson She was bold, at times even impetuous. She talked back to friend and foe alike. As with the strongest of us, she needed a little help now and then, but she was not a Princess who needed saving. She was brave and compassionate, dedicated and determined. It was 1977, and in my ten year old brain she triggered a revolutionary way of seeing - of defining - heroes. Carrie Fisher has become one with the Force. Her creation, Leia, lives on.

Haynes Sher I feel so lucky and privileaged to have met Carrie this past year in October at the NYC Comicon. She was warm, funny and took the time to sign EVERYTHING she possibly could. While I stood in line I watched all the fans in awe of her, have personal exchanges and the best was she was more than willing to give hugs to the kids......boys and girls knowing her as Pricess Leia. She didn't hesitate for a moment when asked for the hug. She left a legacy not only in the Star Wars film but in her poignant and humorous real life writings. I'm so sorry you have lost your daughter so early in life but know that she touch millions of hearts with her talents. Many hugs to you and your family.

Matthew C Merback I was diagnosed bipolar in my 20's, 14 years ago. I didn't know what to do, and while researching, I found out she was bipolar too. I read "Postcards". I watched interviews. Seeing her struggle helped me realize I could survive. And not just survive, but thrive. I'm sure there are thousands of stories like this you're going to hear in the coming months, but I wanted you to know how deeply she impacted my life. There were many times I was low enough to be scary, and just listening to her speak about her experiences kept me from "giving up". It's funny in a way, because you and your movies like "Singing in the Rain" inspired me to be a performer, while your daughter's words, and her movies, kept me from losing myself. So thank you. Both of you. So much. I never met her, but her fight kept me going. I can't imagine what your family is going through, and I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Not just StarWars, also When Harry Met Sally. She was funny and a role model and by God, she could deliver a line. She was a model for mental health. She is and always will be sorely missed

Rebecca Aimée This what she meant -means- to me. I felt invincible in my bedsheet-and-tinfoil outfit complete with tiny pigtail replicas of that iconic hairstyle, I had a 'blaster' too, made of toilet roll tubes which leaked black paint all over my front when it rained but I didn't care, because I was PRINCESS LEIA! (I wish I had a better photo, but it was the nineties). I love Carrie, she'll always be my icon. Huge condolences to everyone who knew and loved her.

She was our princess, and we will remember her always as an an actress who proved that women could play strong, pivotal roles in film. The stars will be a bit dimmer tonight, but at least one will shine brightly in the heavens.

Joffie Lovett Carrie was probably the first ever strong female character I ever saw in any film when I was a kid. She was captivating, inspiring, powerful & wonderful as the Princess Lea character. She showed this young kid just how awesome female characters could be in film for years to come & if I ever have kids of my own, I will make absolutely sure to sit with them 1 day & show them Carrie's legacy & how it can empower them too.
